St. John’s Teachers’ Training College in Kilimambogo has included fish farming into its curriculum to increase food security in the college and provide opportunities for hands-on learning for future teachers of agriculture. Students learn topics related to fish farming such as biology, environmental science, and economics through practical, interdisciplinary instruction.
The project improves the college’s food supplies and saves the college money that would otherwise have been used to buy fish for students and staff.
Our future plans include expanding the facilities, bringing in new species, and installing state-of-the-art technologies. This initiative not only prepares students for jobs in aquaculture instruction in the future but also shows the college’s dedication to sustainability.
